CMS Provider Data — Methodology
How we use CMS Care Compare nursing-home data on provider pages.
Plain-language policy
Facility-level fields (overall/health/staffing/quality star ratings, certified beds, residents, ownership type, staffing hours) come from the CMS Care Compare “Provider Information” dataset, published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (U.S. Government public domain).
- What it is: point-in-time, facility-level public measures for Medicare/Medicaid-certified nursing homes.
- What it is not: a guarantee of current quality, and not medical advice. Ratings can change and may lag recent inspections.
- Freshness: each module shows the import date and data period. We refresh on a schedule (see admin → Data sources).
- No patient data: we store only facility-level public fields — never symptoms, diagnoses, medications, member IDs, or patient records.
Questions to ask a facility: current staffing levels, recent inspection results, ownership, and how they’ve addressed any past deficiencies.
