What CMS penalty records (fines and payment denials) are, how we present them neutrally, and where to see them for local facilities.
CMS may record penalties against a facility — civil monetary fines or payment denials. We show these as factual regulatory records with amounts and dates. A penalty is a regulatory action; it is not, by itself, evidence of current conditions or wrongdoing, and absence of a penalty doesn’t prove anything either way.
